Activities on site or within five miles:

Our on-site caretaker can be available to assist you and answer your questions, or disappear and leave you in total privacy.

Explore the many wonders of nature on one of the cleanest lakes in the country (according to the EPA). Lake Ouachita has over 1000 miles of shoreline and over 200 islands where you can camp or play on your own private beach. The lake is a swimmer or scuba diver's heaven with crystal clear water, rare jellyfish (non-stinging) and sponges that are found in very few of the cleanest freshwater lakes, plus world class striped bass abound here as do most types of freshwater fish.

Three recreational marinas are within a 10 minute drive of your vacation home, and include our favorite areas for hiking, picnicking, swimming, fishing, and horseback riding, boat slips, pontoon houseboat, and jet ski rentals. Mountain Harbor Resort also has a full service spa and a quiet restaurant that overlooks the lake.

Hiking in the Ouachita National Forest can range from a meditative walk to an exhilarating adventure, complete with fresh wild blackberries in season. See www.fs.fed.us/oonf for more information about the Forest, including nearby trails. A nearby Ranger station can answer your questions and provide maps for a wide variety of hikes. In the spring and fall, canoe floating is available on the nearby Ouachita River. We can help you choose a float that fits your interests.

Mount Ida is the world's best area for quartz crystals: both digging and shopping for them. We often pick up crystals that are lying on the ground as we walk or hike, especially along the waters edge. Click here to learn more about fun, current events in our area www.mtidachamber.com.

Area*: Historic Hot Springs and Hot Springs National Park are only 25 miles away via a scenic forested drive. Hot Springs is known for its sightseeing, shopping at quaint storefronts, and the visual and musical arts. It was the nations first spa and resort town, and you can still visit the spas, soak in the healing waters, and take home free, naturally heated mineral water straight from a spring. Visit museums, an amusement park, the Oaklawn horse racing track, & much more. Dining options range from elegant to ultra casual. Just 1 1/2 hrs to the east is Little Rock, home to more shopping, sightseeing and the airport, and Memphis is only 2 1/2 hours farther to the east.
