Activities within Five Miles
Explore one of the cleanest lakes in the U.S. Lake Ouachita has over 1000 miles of shoreline and over 200 islands where you can camp or play on your own private beach. The lake is a swimmer or scuba diver's heaven with rare jellyfish (non-stinging) and sponges that are found in very few of the cleanest freshwater lakes, plus world class striped bass.

Three recreational marinas are within a 10 minute drive of your vacation home, and include our favorite areas for hiking, picnicking, swimming, fishing, and horseback riding, boat slips, pontoon houseboat, and jet ski rentals. Our favorite, Mountain Harbor Resort, also has a full service spa and a quiet restaurant that overlooks the lake.

Hiking in the Ouachita National Forest can range from a meditative walk to an exhilarating adventure, complete with fresh wild blackberries in season. See http://www.fs.usda.gov/ouachita for more information about the Forest, including nearby trails. A nearby Ranger station can answer your questions and provide maps for a wide variety of hikes. In the spring and fall, canoe floating is available on the nearby Ouachita River. We can help you choose a float that fits your interests.

Mount Ida is the best area in the U.S. for quartz crystals: both digging and shopping for them. We often pick up crystals that are lying on the ground as we walk or hike, especially along the waters edge.
